Even in Commander, this is still a card we want

It's great against aggro, as a 1/3 blocker that gains us life, and can also put its +1/+1 counter on another creature in the late game

Cheating equipment onto the battlefield is a little less common, and I'm not sure we've ever had a commander that can do both
