The previous days I scouted out a few areas to photograph the wildflowers and the Burnidge Forest Preserve had plenty to photograph so

I reached the trailhead soon after leaving the house with camera gear in hand and it wasn't long before I started seeing the wildflowers that were in pristine condition

I was thinking where I would photograph the sunrise and thought that the bridge over a frozen South Fork Kishwaukee River and the peachleaf willow tree would be a good place to set up the tripod

The creek is a typical mid west creek

I continued on along the path noticing the sun beginning to peak through the fog above with more oak trees to the left

With the extreme cold temperatures of January and February, waterfalls form as the afternoon sun begins to melt the snowfall from the previous day only to have that snow and water freeze overnight as the temperatures drop to 9F to 0F creating impressive and colorful waterfalls at Starved Rock State Park.
