Most Scottish people are at least vaguely familiar with the Declaration Of Arbroath although we weren't aware that it (most likely) occurred within the grounds of this abbey. The Declaration was sent by Scotland's nobles to Pope John XXII in 1320 to assert Scotlands independence from England and support Robert the Bruces
