I started up the steep trail at 5:15 am to catch the sunrise at the lake and the Continental Divide

I was just slowly meandering around the Park waiting for that change

I decided to head out around late morning and hope the forecast would be correct

A slight breeze moves across Wildflower Lake leaving soft ripples of a peaceful morning in its wake

A beautiful early spring sunrise with rich and soft colors of orange appears on the horizon with giant reeds standing tall along the South Fork Kishwaukee River as I make my way to Wildflower Lake

A COLD MORNING CONEFLOWERS I started up the steepA beautiful view of a frozen 100 ft wildcat canyon falls. With the extreme cold temperatures of January and February, waterfalls form as the afternoon sun begins to melt the snowfall from the previous day only to have that snow and water freeze overnight as the temperatures drop to 9F to 0F creating impressive and colorful waterfalls at Starved Rock State Park.
