SWEDISH SAILOR'S KNIFE BY GUSTAF JOHAN BERG, CA.1870 iron-mounted hilt has a niceThis interesting Swedish sailor's work knife or svensk sjmanskniv, was manufactured by the Eskilstuna cutler Gustaf Johan Berg (company was in existence ca. 1863 1891). Knife is 20. 5 cm long, with a 9. 5 cm blade, maker marked on the ricasso and the brass scabbard, which is also stamped with a model No. 7. Knife has a very nicely carved ebony handle; the high relief scrimshaw depicts budding flowers and tobacco leaves in vignettes, on both sides.
