Same total mana value, and they both dish out counters when they attack, though Expanding Ooze needs a modified creature to target
I hate to be constantly coming down on the side of "generically good", but until we're giving out points for somehow making skinless, multi-legged critters cute and functional, I think this one has to go to Soul-Guide LanternSoul-Guide Lantern and artifacts
Lava Spike is great for starting to dwindle down the opponent's life, with its low casting cost allowing you to start burning early
