I remember playing Goblins back in old extended where the deck functioned a lot more as some sort of explosive utility/card advantage deck, which also happened to randomly win on the back of Goblin Piledriver

Whites current place in the color pie doesnt really leave a lot of room for new mana ramp cards, so it has to use some of the other mechanics it excels in to generate mana tax effects and balance mechanics
