Spider plants can tolerate lower light, but will really thrive in bright, indirect light. Water thoroughly and then allow the top half of the soil to dry between waterings. They can be sensitive to the chemicals and minerals in tap water, so if you notice brown tips forming, trying switching to distilled water or allowing your water to sit out overnight before watering.
