Mary, whose mother has recently died, goes to live with her aunt and her family at the brooding Jamaica Inn. What she finds is a violent, dark and dismal home. Du Maurier was a prolific writer and much of her work is set in a wild and desolate Cornwall. This is a wonderful starting point for anyone wanting to read some of her work. First published in 1936.
