She was a pediatric physician in Italy and a mother of 6 children, Pierluigi, Mariolina, and Laura, followed by two miscarriages. The 6th pregnancy brought with it both baby and, tragically, a tumor on her uterus. The surgeons recommended a hysterectomy, which would have killed the baby. She chose not to have the operation in order to preserve the child's life. Gianna ended up dying soon after the baby was born from
